Scotts Rider Development Programme

Scotts of Thrapston, leading manufacturer of timber stables, is delighted to be the Title Sponsor for Carlton Horse Trials for a third year, in 2012. In conjunction with this sponsorship, Scotts has offered two lucky riders a place on their Rider Development Programme each year and 2012 is no exception.

In this special Olympic year, however, the chosen two riders will undertake extensive training as well as having an exclusive chance to train with the Brazilian Olympic Eventing team.

What does the Rider Development Programme involve?

Scotts of Thrapston has supported local amateur event riders continuously, and is delighted to be running the programme in partnership with Carlton for a third year. You may well have followed Henry Beasley, Janet Hammond, Sarah Orr and Alex Elliott over the past two years. They have been part of the rider development programme and have benefited from the extensive training and support given in the months leading up to competing at Carlton Horse Trials.

The aim of the 2012 RDP is to encourage grass-roots level riders to improve their standards and skills safely. From March 2012, the chosen two riders will work towards competing in their first affiliated event, at Carlton in July. In this special Olympic year, the two riders will also have a unique and incredible opportunity to train alongside an Olympic team.

If you wish to apply for the 2012 Scotts Rider Development Programme, then read on….

What will be expected of me?

First and foremost, you will need to demonstrate that you have what it takes to train with an Olympic team.

From March 2012, the chosen two riders will work towards competing in their first affiliated event by:

  • Spending three days training with the Brazilian Olympic Eventing team members, and their coach, BE accredited Nick Turner
  • Attending a private half-price clinic at Carlton Cross Country Course with Nick Turner
  • Writing an informal fortnightly diary reporting on the thrills and triumphs of being part of the scheme
  • Receive branded clothing and free entry to Carlton Horse Trials
  • The programme finale in July 2012 will see the two riders compete in their first affiliated class at Carlton

How do I apply to get on the programme?

To get an application form, please download the form here.

Or alternatively, contact Sara Tusting at Carlton Cross Country for further details on 01234 720320.

Closing date: 24th February 2012

All completed application forms must be sent to:

Sara Tusting, Carlton Cross Country, Hill House, Carlton MK43 7ND

All applications will be reviewed by the coaching staff at Carlton. Initially, a number of applicants will be shortlisted and if you are one of the lucky ones you will be required to attend an informal selection meeting, early in March 2012. Two lucky riders will then be chosen to form the Scotts’ squad and will need to demonstrate a commitment and passion for this opportunity and must be available for the training dates detailed on the attached RDP promotional leaflet. We look forward to receiving your applications and wish you all the best in entering this once in a lifetime opportunity.
